Despite the world going digital at a staggering pace, most Americans’ medical information is stored on paper. When that medical information is required by a new medical professional, most patients have to carry the hard copies from appointment to appointment. Needless to say, it’s an outdated and unreliable system. As a solution, the electronic health information exchange allows doctors, nurses, pharmacies and other healthcare providers to access and securely share a patient’s medical history. Apart from making life easier for patients, this process can improve diagnosis, avoid medication errors and decrease duplicate testing.
These records are exchanged securely in an encrypted format through 3 different types of exchanges. First and most widely used is the Direct Exchange, which is when a primary care physician refers the patient to a specialist along with their general medical history. Second is the Query-Based exchange when an emergency room doctor can request access to a patient’s medical information that includes the medication prescribed as well as the recent test. All which saves valuable time in an emergency situation. Third is the Consumer Mediated exchange which provides patients access to their own health information, where they correct wrong or missing health information as well as keep track of any billing discrepancies.
Rinsoft has worked with various Healthcare providers to implement a system that consolidates Health Data from various sources into one comprehensive report that can serve as an official record for the patient’s medical history. These records are invaluable and are life-saving when used in emergency situations. The systems in place use the latest technology with advanced encryption to keep these records accessible yet secure.
